This day dawned mistier and cold.
We were already said that the travel to Alappuzha might take an hour more as
its Sunday and the traffic is too bad. Our plan was to start by 8am but that extended to 9am. After the
complimentary breakfast at the resort, we started our journey to Alappuzha.
Really it’s a tiresome journey
but we couldn’t stop ourselves from enjoying the nature everywhere on the way.
We stopped at various places to take some refreshments and I was super excited about
the house boat. Every half an hour, I was asking Prabhu have we reached the
destination.
So, finally we reached back
waters of Alappuzha and the vehicle took a sudden turn to a house at the midst
of farm lands. We were welcomed by the owner of the house boat and Prabhu left
to his home bidding us bye till the next day 9am.
Though I have seen too many
photographs of house boats and some videos too, the actual sight was
breathtaking. We were too hungry and as soon as we got into the boat, we were
served with a welcome drink.
The boat started once we had a
delicious lunch prepared by Mr.Anush. That tasted like home-prepared food. Our
vegetarian menu included Gobi Manchurian, Rice, sambar, rasam, kothavaranai
kootu, cabbage poriyal, appalam and pickle.
And we started enjoying the lush
surroundings and the serene ambience. Yes. This is definitely a splendid wonder
of Kerala – the chain of lagoons and lakes.
We had booked for the overnight
cruise(Deluxe) – 1bhk house boat in our terms(lol.).
There are 3 types of house boat
services offered here.
Standard - With basic amenities. No
air-conditioner.
Deluxe/Premium - Comfortable
with air-conditioner at night.
Luxury - Round
the clock air-conditioner and world class luxuries.
I would say deluxe is pretty good
for a night stay. There is a sit-out with comfortable sofas, a television,
speakers. From here, you can chat with the driver while experiencing the “Venice
of the east”. Our boat had a single cozy bed room, a dining area and kitchen.
We saw few other boats with an
upper deck. There are boats with maximum 7 bedrooms. They also provide service
for few hours.
We traveled till 6.30 pm as
cruising in the evening and night is not allowed in the state. We halted at the
place where we got in. Anush stayed with us and he served us hot coffees and
onion pakoda. He connected cable from the owner’s home and we were able to
watch television. We spent some time chit chatting with Anush and took
photographs.
There is ferry boats service from the nearby villages too. People have their own boats, some with motor and
some are rowed. We saw an old lady who easily rowed a boat across us. See how
healthy their life style must be!!!
