Chekka Chivantha Vaanam - a Rasool Report!!!
SPOILERS AHEAD. PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE MOVIE YET.

The movie is a gangster movie, emotional drama, not a step down from the masalas and heroisms. But a suspense thriller, only for those did not try to read Maniratnam from the start.
The movie opens with the title "Chekka Chivantha Vaanam" followed by Rasool's(Vijay Sethupathy) voice reflecting the hatred to the powerful gangster world. So, the movie is apparently a report from Rasool with ARRahman and Santosh story telling it.
After the sentence "Indraiya kutravaali, irutula matum nadamadubavan alla", there enters ARRahman with Arvind Swamy's name on the screen. In each scene of Prakash raj, it is clearly shown that Varadan is the most dearest to him. As all Mani's movies, the eyes and the body language speaks a lot.
As the entire movie progresses, as in the report format, the time is shown in most of the scenes which coincides with the report papers shown at the end(managed to notice the end report in the second time watch).
Just a try to note down the timings(clocks and reports combined).
The attack on Senapathi and his wife happens on 17th September.
On 19th September, the operation "Red Sky" is started. This is when Senapathi recovers a bit and gives the temporary power to Varadan. The hospital clock shows some early morning time and the same day, Rasool is dismissed.
Rasool seeks Varadan's help on 21st September (As per the end report).Varadan wears a brown leather strapped watch before this, and he wears the gold chain watch this day.
Thyagu and Ethi arrives on 23rd September and again the hospital clock is clearly shown. Noticed the order ? Thyagu near Senapathi, Varadan at the sofa and Ethi far from Senapathi.. and the 4 statues at the hospital room in descending heights.
The same day, Pondicherry incidents happen. Chinnappa das attacks on Thyagu and Ethi happens on 26th September.
On October 1st, the naming function happens at Senapathi's home where Chinnappadas comes and they both decide something. As they go in peace, the operation pauses.
Rasool, who was informed that he will receive the suspension order at home, goes to police station and from the conversation, it is clear that the operation is at dead end, as said in end reports. A calendar is shown at the backdrop - I failed to note the date. Got this unclear picture from behindwoods facebook page.
When the three sons argue over the power and Thyagu unties his mom's bandage, his watch shows some evening time - may be on the same day as above.
When Senapathi's demise is informed, Thyagu is shown to be in London(Renu's place - the London's eye is shown from the window), delays travel stating that he has meeting with Arabs. The same evening, Chaaya is shot - the killer kick starts his vehicle infront of a big clock that reads 4.30. When the cops enter Thyagu's home, the clock shows 9.30pm. Varadan switches back to his brown strapped watch in some scenes till this, but holds(not wears) the gold chain watch while watching Thyagu and Ethi on Laptop.
The operation resumes back when Ethi enters Rasool's home on 12th October. Again the early morning clock is shown behind Ethi. On October 13th early morning, Velu thambi is hung on the gate and the anxious Varadan shoots him. Same day Chezhiyan is killed. Varadan and Chitra escapes.
When Chitra is on the surgery bed, the clock says 6.00(I felt it was at the late night). After the surgery, Varadan gifts the bangles to Chitra. Remembered the same bangles, removed by Senapathi's wife on Senapathi's last night(Does it mean that Varadan killed his mom too?) When Rasool receives call from Varadan it is 11 p.m, and the next day(October 14th) operation Red sky is completed without much collateral damage.
When so many movies copied and claims that it is an inspiration of so and so, here is the pure INSPIRED movie. As Raavanan portrayed a different perspective of ramayanam, as Thalapathy portrayed the other face of duryodana and Karna, the master comes with the contemporary version of the epic "Ponniyin Selvan".
A strong resemblance of the novel throughout the movie makes it exciting. He has not listed down and found matches for the characters in PS. But he has grabbed its soul and deciphered it to the contemporary version that makes it more and more interesting.
The main plot in the novel starts at the beginning of the thamizh month "Aipasi"(September-October) and finishes off in the same month. The operation "Red Sky" too, in the same duration.
Decrypting many more resemblances of "Ponniyin Selvan" in CCV... Analysis to be continued ...
